My Awesome Secret Pal!
I just recently got the most awesome package from my secret pal! She had wrapped each thing individually in tissue paper, so it was like a wonderful never ending gift! DH was rolling his eyes as I unwrapped each item and excitedly showed it to him. He just doesn't get the "big deal" over knitting stuff.
So, what wonders did I behold? Look and see:

Some beautiful merino wool sock yarn from knitpicks in Hydrangea. Addi Turbo circular needles in size 1, perfect for doing socks or lace on! Chibi yarn needles for those pesky ends that have to be weaved in! Some more beautiful hand made stitch markers in a little case to keep them in. Some halloween stickers! Some Gummy Candy (yum!)! An awesome wash cloth that my too-cool secret pal made for me! A little stuffed ghost! And finally, 3 sock patterns in sleeves! Talk about spoiled!
I've already cast on the sock yarn and started one of the patterns (the zig zag one, the lizard pattern is next!)

I know some people hate when the colors pool, but personally I like the effect.
I've also consumed most of the gummy bears by now too. Such a pig I am!
Also, a couple more updates as I don't know when I'll get a chance again. Here is the One Skein Wonder that I made that turned out too small and will now be a xmas gift to my niece.

Not one of my better pictures.
Here is a close up of the cables on the sleeves of the OSW

My camera died before I could take a picture of my fuzzy feet and of some lace yarn that I recently bought.
DH and I are going to be in the local paper this week. We had one of our big boas out on the porch with us as we were handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters. One of the photographers for the paper was out taking pictures and she got one of us with the boa. Kinda cool!
Also, we did a reptile thing for a local school and had one of our corn snakes get stolen. Luckily, they caught up with the kid a few days later and managed to get her returned to us safe and sound.
I start my new job tomorrow! I'm starting to get a little nervous, but not too bad! More excited than anything. We also got my truck running so I'll have a way to actually get to my new job.
Well that's all I have time for today. Hopefully I'll have a chance to take some more pictures and write more soon.

So busy..
I probably won't be posting much for the next couple weeks (yeah yeah, like anyone reads this, I know I'm just babbling to myself here).. at least not until my new job starts. Things are seriously crazy at work and I'm sharing a ride with DH, which means I'm in at the crack of dawn, out late, eat and go to bed.. We got DSL at home now, so once things calm down I'll be able to post more pictures.
As for what's going on, my work was completely blindsided about my leaving. They had no clue. My "boss" is freaking out over it and I'm taking great pleasure in bringing up stuff she didn't think about just to watch the ensuing panic attack. I once had dreams of telling off certain people, quitting and walking out the door. Oh how I would have enjoyed that. But this.. this is so much better. It's so much more malicious to watch her squirm and freak out over every little thing and just when she starts to calm down, bring up something equally wonderful for her to have a fit about. Too bad she's not in the office more.
Other quick news. The step-kid made his second touchdown ever in football, this time he actually got to run the ball into the endzone. Last time he caught a pass while in the endzone. We're so proud of him! His coach also promoted him to 1st string and he's been playing really really well. This is a great thing! Next year, the tryouts for freshman football are a lot more difficult and they look at your previous year's stats. He would be crushed if he didn't get on the team next year, but if he keeps playing his last few games like this he shouldn't have any trouble.
I got the paperwork for the new job outlining the benefits and (most importantly) the sign on bonus. Lets just say that not only will it cover the cost of a good pair of shoes, but it will also pay for me to get a bunch of yarn I've been dying to get (esp. the yarn to finish the dragon bag oh oh and a swift & ball winder - hey, I've EARNED it... ) as well as put a bunch of money in the bank for xmas presents. DH and I were kinda worried about what we were going to do for xmas this year as in the past we relied exculsively on my xmas bonus to pay for presents. Obviously the odds of me getting that bonus this year are pretty damn close to zero.
The mortgage with the new company is moving right along. Just sent all the financial stuff to them today. We talked extensively with them about the problem we had with the other company and they were pretty horrified with the treatment we received and some of the demands that were made of us. They assured us that they would not require anything like the other company did to close the mortgage. I won't breathe easy until this is over with.
I started knitting the Fuzzy Feet pattern from knitty. I got about 1/2 way done with the first one last night. I'm using the cascade that I got from my sp. Oh My God is this stuff soft. I just want to wrap myself in it forever and ever. I'm almost hesitant to felt it because it is so wonderful.

Football
My friend ended up not coming to visit this weekend. As much as I really want to see her, it worked out for the best. We ended up being really busy and not around much at all.
The kid had a football game this weekend. Last week we (along with some other parents) had to have a long talk with his coach because he wasn't playing as much as he is required to (at certain age levels they have to play a certain number of minutes per game) in fact the coach wasn't playing him (or some of the other kids) at all. The kid was really upset over it. So, we brought the video camera to this game so we could document the "problem". We were late getting there so we missed the first quarter. The kid's grandparents told us he hadn't played at all yet. Coach saw us with the video camera and the kid played more minutes in one game than he has all season. He did extremely well too! He caught some awesome passes and gained alot of yards for the team. I'm glad we had the camera because we got it all on tape. He only has 2 games left this season so we'll probably tape those too. I also noticed that the other kids that he hadn't been playing were also in the game much more this time.
Anyway, while I was taping his game I went to grab my soda and take a drink.. well there was a wasp on the can, and I not paying attention, drank it... It managed to sting the inside of my lip before I spit it out. I'm sure it had been completely traumatized by being in my mouth, so I stepped on it so it wouldn't have to carry that emotional baggage around.
I should hear from the awesome job place today so I'll know if I'm going to be offered a job from the other department.

I GOT AN OFFER!!!!
They JUST called and offered me a position in the 2nd department I interviewed with on Tuesday! I'm so excited! I would really rather work in the 1st department I interviewed with, but the HR manager said she hadn't talked to them yet. She's going to check with them today and see if they were going to offer me a job and get back to me. If they don't I'll take this offer. I can't believe it I'm finally going to be working in my field!!!!! WHEEEEEEE!!!!

Random Stuff
A good friend of mine called last night. I haven't heard from her since a week or two after I sent her the gecko bag months ago. I was starting to get worried. I knew things were getting pretty bad between her & her husband and she wasn't returning my calls. I am so relieved to hear that she is ok (well, as ok as can be under the circumstances). To say the divorce is messy is the understatement of the year. Anyway, she told me that she just needs to get away for a while so she may be coming up to visit this weekend. It will be awesome to see her if she does. Its a 10 hour drive though, so I'm not sure if she'll feel up to it when it comes time to leave. Even if she changes her mind, I'm still so happy to hear from her finally. Of course tonight I'm going to have to do a marathon cleaning session in case she really does come to visit because the house is a disaster!
DH and I got a new snake yesterday. It's an Albino San Diego Gopher Snake. I'll have to take some pictures. She's very pretty.
I don't have internet at home any longer. The stupid college finally (after 2 years) figured out that I wasn't enrolled in anything and cancelled my free access. Bastards. Now we have to pay for internet. We'll probaby get DSL eventually.
I also can't wait to go home. 1 hr and 17 minutes until I can leave. It is 65 or so degrees outside and it is WARMER out there than it is in my office. The only reason I can feel my fingers is because I've kept a cup full of hot water on my desk to periodically hold on to. My feet on the other hand are numb. I swear I work with penguins. No human could possibly think this is a comfortable temperature (and they still think its too hot in here, luckily the building manager refuses to turn it down any lower than it already is. I think he's afraid that the pipes will freeze and burst if he does)
I had to rip out my mom's doily last night. I was working on it while taking on the phone and so wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to it. Ended up dropping like 3 stitches without noticing and somehow they unravelled allllll the way down to the beginning of the doily. Huge hole. No fixing it. At least I wasn't that far along on it. That's what I get for not running a life line though :)

Interview
Well my friend did end up meeting me for lunch before the interviews. It was great to see her again and we had a lot of fun chatting about stuff. She did a great job of taking my mind off from being nervous about the interviews.
Interview #1 went fantastic, the interview was only scheduled for 45 minutes, but we ended up talking and whatnot for an hour and a half. I'm very proud of myself for pushing my nervousness aside and being talkative and upbeat. Usually when I'm nervous I don't say much more than is absolutely necessary (ok, so the guy was also smoking hot and I turned on the charm a little tiny bit. I've always been able to flirt even with my stomach in knots). The guy that interviewed me seemed really interested in my background with animals - he asked a ton of questions about raising snakes, he thought that was really cool, and he went over when I could start and even checked the schedule for the next training session (next week) and said that he would have to set my start date for November 2nd so I could give notice. He didn't officially offer me the job, but I got really good vibes from him.
Interview #2 went really well also. I wasn't quite as talkative because the guy interviewing me kept up a non-stop stream of chatter. I didn't get the strong you've got a job vibe from him, which is ok because the department that I would prefer to be in is the one I interviewed for first.
So, overall it was a good day yesterday. This time I'm not going to wait 2 weeks to call them back if I haven't heard from them. I will call on Monday to find out.
